Global Gadgets plays its part in India’s Smartphone Boom

India has surpassed the United States to become the second largest smartphone market in the world, according to a research firm Counterpoint. India's smartphone user base increased to 220 million by the end of last year.

Apple sold over two million iPhones last year. iPhones are desired by as a status symbol by the elite users. The brand has a loyal 
following for its design and innovation. Samsung is the overall market leader in mobile phone sales. Samsung topped the charts both in smartphone as well as feature phone segments.

Smartphone shipments grew 15% year-on-year in Q4, 2015. Overall, for the complete year, smartphone shipments crossed the 100 million mark, which represents a year-on-year growth of 23%.
Nearly 50% of the mobile phones sold in India last year were 'Made in India', and nearly 40% of the total shipped units were smartphones.
According to international research firm Strategy Analytics, global smartphone sales are forecast to grow from 1.5 billion units in 2015 to a record 1.7 billion by 2017.

“We forecast global smartphone sales will grow from 1.5 billion units in 2015 to a record 1.7 billion in 2017,” said Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics.

India is fast becoming the next major growth wave. According to the report, 118 million smartphones will be sold in India this year. Nearly 458 million smartphones will be sold in China in 2015, rising steadily to 505 million in 2017. About 164 million smartphones will be sold in the U.S. in 2015, climbing marginally to 169 million in 2017.

“No serious global hardware or software player can afford to ignore the huge Indian smartphone market today,” the report concluded. According to the report, 118 million smartphones will be sold in India this year. And Global Gadgets will certainly play its role to reach new records.
